Initial Strategy

Use Roaring Moon ex’s Calamity Storm to lay the smackdown on your opponent’s weaker Pokémon, discarding Stadiums to boost this attack’s damage. If the opposing Pokémon has too much HP, you can use Frenzied Gouging to instantly KO it, but keep in mind that your Roaring Moon ex will damage itself in the process. Try to only use this on Pokémon that give up 2 or more Prize cards when Knocked Out to get the most value out of this awesome attack.

Roaring Moon ex has two powerful attacks but each of them cost 3 Energy. Thankfully, Professor Sada’s Vitality helps attach 2 Basic Energy cards from your discard pile to 2 of your Ancient Pokémon, helping to charge up Roaring Moon ex and draw cards. A good way to get Energy into the discard pile for this Supporter is with Radiant Greninja, which can discard Energy cards from your hand to draw 2 cards. You can also make use of Trainer cards like Earthen Vessel, which not only discards a card from your hand (ideally an Energy card), but it searches your deck for 2 Basic Energy cards! Then you can use those Energy cards for Ultra Ball, which requires you to discard 2 cards from your hand, but in exchange, lets you search for any Pokémon in your deck.

But Roaring Moon ex isn’t the only attacker in your arsenal. Alolan Raticate’s Super Fang can put your opponent’s Pokémon down to its last legs, which can then be swept from underneath them with a tick of poison thanks to Brute Bonnet, whose Toxic Powder Ability can make both Active Pokémon Poisoned as long as it has an Ancient Booster Energy Capsule attached. This effectively gives you another one-hit Knock Out move, and it can even be enabled with a single Reversal Energy if your opponent has taken more Prize cards than you.

Make your way through Tier 16 to unlock the cards listed below:

1 Roaring Moon ex PAR 251

2 Darkrai VSTAR CRZ GG50

2 Darkrai V ASR 098

1 Mew ex MEW 151

1 Squawkabilly ex PAL 264

3 Professor Sada’s Vitality PAR 256

4 Dark Patch LOR 216

1 Galarian Moltres EVS 093

2 Basic Darkness Energy SVE 007

Many of these cards can be added to your deck to provide more power and flexibility. But to add cards, you’ll also need to remove cards. We’ve highlighted some cards in the “Starting Deck” list that you might consider swapping out for the new ones, but feel free to mix and match!

Updated Strategy

If you use the suggested cuts, you’ll find your attacker lineup is more flexible. Darkrai VSTAR adds both a powerful attacker to your roster while giving you tons of options at all stages of the game with its Star Abyss VSTAR Power. You can use Star Abyss to get back Dark Patch to accelerate Energy onto your Bench or find whatever Item card you need to get out of a bind. Galarian Moltres can accelerate Darkness Energy to itself with its Malevolent Charge Ability, which can power up your Darkrai VSTAR’s Dark Pulse attack. It can also make for a potent attacker itself with Fiery Wrath, which does more damage as your opponent takes more Prize cards.

Mew ex and Squawkabilly ex can help draw cards but also have some additional functionality. Mew ex has no Retreat Cost, making it the perfect pivot Pokémon after one of yours is Knocked Out, allowing you maximum freedom in who you want to attack with next turn, while also making it easier to power up your Pokémon with cards that only affect Benched Pokémon, like Dark Patch. Squawkabilly ex’s Ability, Squawk and Seize, can only be used on the first turn; however, it not only draws you 6 new cards, it can also help get Darkness Energy cards into your discard pile to fuel your Dark Patch!

Ancient Majesty

Make your way to Tier 50 to unlock a special illustration rare version of Roaring Moon ex! You can swap this into your deck or even run a full playset of it.

Now that you’ve mastered the awesome power of Roaring Moon ex, perhaps it’s time for a change of pace.

1 Rescue Carrier EVS 154

1 Switch SVI 194

Energy: 11

5 Basic Metal Energy SVE 008

6 Basic Psychic Energy SVE 005

Initial Strategy

Draw a lot of cards with Gholdengo ex and Kirlia’s Abilities, then use Make It Rain to dish out tons of damage by discarding Energy cards from your hand. Gardevoir and Radiant Greninja can also help fill your hand, and Gallade can search your deck for the perfect Supporter card each turn. With all of this draw power, it isn’t uncommon to draw through your entire deck, so make sure you have at least one card left in your deck before declaring an attack!

Gholdengo ex can Make It Rain damage on your opponent, but doing so against high-HP Pokémon will clean your hand out of Energy cards quickly. Use Energy Retrieval and Klara to quickly refill your hand with Basic Energy cards so you can Make It Rain all over again. If you find yourself running low on ways to get back Energy cards, you can bust out your trusty Pal Pad to shuffle two copies of Klara back into your deck (or any other Supporter card you fancy at the time).

By Tier 14, the following cards will be granted to you:

Card Drops

2 Gholdengo ex PAR 252

2 Gimmighoul PAR 198

2 Fog Crystal CRE 227

1 Worker SIT 195

2 Tulip PAR 259

1 Lady LOR 193

4 Superior Energy Retrieval PAL 277

1 Super Rod PAL 276

Cards highlighted in the “Starting Deck” list are suggested cuts to make way for your new ones, but you can adjust as you like!

Updated Strategy

With your upgraded list, your strategy has become even easier to execute. Superior Energy Retrieval requires you to discard 2 cards to play it, but in exchange lets you get 4 Basic Energy cards from your discard pile back into your hand. The discard cost won’t be too painful since your hand should be chock-full of cards with all of your Abilities, but if you find the price is too steep, you can lean on a new Supporter from this expansion—Tulip! While it only gets back Psychic-type Pokémon and Basic Psychic Energy cards, it has the flexibility of getting back up to four of those types (like four Basic Psychic Energy), which can be great if you’re just looking to bury your foes with Make It Rain. If you find yourself in need of additional copies of Gholdengo ex, you can reel it back into your deck with the help of Super Rod.

Since your hand size is so big, replacing Professor’s Research with draw cards that have more unique effects might prove useful, while also not throwing away too many resources. Lady can grab 4 Basic Energy cards from your deck, while Worker can discard a pesky Stadium card like Path to the Peak and draw you 3 cards in the process. Fog Crystal replaces Capturing Aroma in this new list, and while it can’t grab Evolution Pokémon, it has the nice flexibility of being able to find a Basic Psychic Energy, which might just be what you need to score a KO with Make It Rain.

Buried Treasures

If you make it all the way to Tier 50 of the Premium Pass, an additional illustration rare Gimmighoul and special illustration rare Gholdengo ex will be unveiled. Feel free to swap them into your deck to stack up the bling.

Enjoy your new decks, Trainers!
