The Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShop Closes on March 27, 2023

We recommend purchasing any Pokémon titles you want for your collection before it’s too late.

The Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems and the Wii U system will no longer be available as of March 27, 2023. Once the shop closes, you won’t be able to purchase digital games (including a variety of past Pokémon titles) for those systems. We recommend you make your purchases soon to ensure your collection is complete.

The following digital-only Pokémon releases will become unavailable for purchase after the shop closes.

Nintendo 3DS eShop

Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console

Wii U eShop

Wii U Virtual Console

In addition to these games, there’s also a pair of Pokémon game demos that are still available to download from the Nintendo 3DS eShop. Not only do these demos give you a taste of the full versions of their respective games, but completing them will earn you special Pokémon that can be transferred to Pokémon Bank. Look for Glalie in the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Special Demo and Ash-Greninja in the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon Special Demo.

The closure of the Nintendo 3DS eShop will also affect the Theme Shop and Nintendo Badge Arcade, both of which contain Pokémon items that can be used to customize your Nintendo 3DS home screen. Finally, we recommend you take this opportunity to download any available software updates.

Those who link their Nintendo Network ID wallet (used with Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems) with their Nintendo Account wallet (used with the Nintendo Switch family of systems) can use the shared balance to purchase content on any of these systems until March 27, 2023. After that, the balance can only be used to purchase content for the Nintendo Switch family of systems.
