Shiny Miltank, Event-Themed Raids, and More in Pokémon GO’s Johto Celebration

There’s lots to do during this special event, including Johto-themed raids and an opportunity to evolve certain Pokémon to learn exclusive attacks.

Pokémon GO’s celebration of the regions that make up the Pokémon universe continues with the Johto Celebration—an event that’ll commemorate the region first explored in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver. From Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, January 31, 2021, at 8:00 p.m. local time, you’ll encounter a bevy of Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region, including—if you’re extremely lucky—a Shiny Miltank.

During the Johto Celebration, Pokémon like Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Mareep, Hoppip, Aipom, Sunkern, Yanma, Murkrow, Gligar, Snubbull, Slugma, and Miltank will appear more frequently in the wild. Hatch a 5 km Egg during the event, and you might find a Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Wooper, Tyrogue, Smoochum, or Larvitar.

Event-exclusive Field Research tasks will reward Trainers with Stardust and lead to encounters with Pokémon like Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Chinchou, Sudowoodo, and Miltank.

Raid Battles

There’s going to be plenty of Johto excitement in Raid Battles as well. One-star raids will feature Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Mareep, Marill, and Larvitar, while three-star raids will include Togetic, Espeon, Umbreon, Skarmory, and Miltank.

The start of the Johto Celebration also marks the beginning of a five-star-raid rotation featuring Raikou, Entei, and Suicune that’ll extend beyond the duration of the event. Check out the schedule below to find out when you can face off against Raikou, Entei, and Suicune.

  • Entei will appear from Tuesday, January 26, at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, January 31, at 10:00 a.m. local time.

  • Raikou will appear from Sunday, January 31, at 10:00 a.m. to Thursday, February 4 at 10:00 a.m. local time.

  • Suicune will appear from Thursday, February 4, at 10:00 a.m. to Tuesday, February 9, at 10:00 a.m. local time.

Even More Johto Excitement

The Johto Celebration will also provide you with the opportunity to evolve certain Pokémon to learn exclusive attacks that were previously featured during 2018 Community Day events. If you evolve the following Pokémon during this event, their Evolution will know these exclusive attacks:

  • Evolve Bayleef (the evolved form of Chikorita) to get a Meganium that knows Frenzy Plant.

  • Evolve Quilava (the evolved form of Cyndaquil) to get a Typhlosion that knows Blast Burn.

  • Evolve Flaaffy (the evolved form of Mareep) to get an Ampharos that knows Dragon Pulse.

  • Evolve Pupitar (the evolved form of Larvitar) to get a Tyranitar that knows Smack Down.

Finally, you can complete a Johto-themed Collection Challenge by catching Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Sudowoodo, Sunkern, Murkrow, Smeargle, Miltank, and Larvitar. Accomplish this task, and you’ll receive 15 Poké Balls, 10 Ultra Balls, and an Incense. You can keep track of your progress on this challenge in the Today View.

This jam-packed celebration will be a great way to prepare for the Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto event, coming Saturday, February 20, 2021. Remember, Trainers, you can purchase a ticket for this special event now in the in-game shop.
