Pokémon GO Lunar New Year Event Features Darumaka, Minccino, and Shiny Gyarados

Celebrate the Year of the Rat with red Pokémon, great surprises in Eggs, and lots of cool bonuses.

Get ready to celebrate the Year of the Rat during the Pokémon GO Lunar New Year event. During this special occasion, the spotlight will shine on various red Pokémon, including the rare and elusive red Shiny Gyarados as well as Darumaka, making its Pokémon GO debut. There will also be a Limited Research event dedicated to Minccino. Check below for the full details.


Pokémon GO Lunar New Year Event

  • Friday, January 24, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. to Monday, February 3, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PST (GMT ­–8)

Be on the lookout for certain red Pokémon appearing more frequently in the wild, including Charmeleon, Vulpix, Parasect, Voltorb, Jynx, Magmar, Magikarp, Flareon, Slugma, Wurmple, Corphish, Kricketot, and Foongus. If you’re lucky, you might even encounter a Gyarados in the wild—and if you’re really lucky, it could be a coveted red Shiny Gyarados.

The Zen Charm Pokémon Darumaka will be appearing for the first time in Pokémon GO in 7 km Eggs, so get those Incubators ready! Please note that Zen Mode Darmanitan will not be available. Other red Pokémon, such as Shuckle and Foongus, will also be hatching from 7 km Eggs.

There will also be a variety of bonuses during the Pokémon GO Lunar New Year event. Gifts will have a chance of rewarding you with Rare Candies, so be sure to send and open lots of Gifts with your friends. You’ll want to trade with your friends as well, as there will be an increased chance you’ll become Lucky Friends. Also, when you trade a Pokémon, there will be an increased chance of it becoming a Lucky Pokémon.


Minccino Limited Research

  • Sunday, February 2, 2020, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in your local time zone

During this event, Field Research tasks will allow you to encounter Minccino, the star of the day. Minccino will also be hatching more frequently from 5 km Eggs. And yes, if you’re lucky, there’s a chance you’ll find a Shiny Minccino. In addition, certain Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild, like Rattata, Raticate, Pikachu, Sandshrew, Nidoran♀, Nidoran♂, Sentret, Marill, Zigzagoon, Plusle, Minun, Bidoof, and Patrat. After the event ends, Minccino will continue to be available to hatch from 5 km Eggs.
