Changes Are Coming to Pokémon TCG Prerelease Tournaments!

A new format aims to make Pokémon TCG Prerelease tournaments even more competitive and fun.

Prerelease tournaments are an awesome way to discover a new Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion. Players can get cards up to two weeks before the expansion has launched and start thinking of ways to put together their next great deck. Plus, Prerelease tournaments are fun opportunities to get together with other Pokémon fans! There is typically a fee required to play in Pokémon TCG Prerelease tournaments, set by the Tournament Organizer.

For future expansions, the format of Prerelease tournaments will be slightly different. Rather than just building a deck out of booster packs, each player will now receive a special Prerelease box. This box contains a 22-card Prerelease pack to provide a solid foundation, plus four 10-card booster packs and an exclusive foil promo card. Players will use the cards from their Prerelease box, plus basic Energy cards provided by the Tournament Organizer, to build a 40-card deck.

Then, it's time to compete against the other Pokémon TCG deck builders! Players will start with only four Prize cards, to accelerate play and account for the smaller decks. Everyone who completes the tournament will receive additional prizes. Check with the Tournament Organizer for info on the specific prizes you'll be playing for at your event.

The Prerelease tournament format change will roll out first in the United States and Canada. The new format will be announced for other regions at a later time.

Keep checking for new opportunities to play in upcoming Pokémon TCG Prerelease tournaments!
