The incredible partner Pokémon in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! make this journey a special one. You'll quickly team up with Pikachu or Eevee, depending on your game version, and it'll travel with you each step of the way, always ready to play, battle, or even show off some wacky costumes!
The two of you will form an inseparable pair over the course of your journey through the beautiful Kanto region. Your cute companion will make your journey more fun both in and out of battle, so read on to find out everything your new ally can do in the latest Pokémon RPG!
Travel with Your Partner
Your Pikachu or Eevee will be a true partner throughout your journey, never straying far from the action and frequently helping out in all-new ways. You'll notice right away your relationship with your partner is going to be a little different when it opts to ride on your head or shoulder instead of traveling in a Poké Ball! Your partner will travel with you even if you take it out of your party of battling Pokémon. Your partner will jump straight from its perch into the fray when you do decide to deploy it in battle, and it'll book it back to the safety of the sidelines when it's withdrawn instead of retreating into a Poké Ball.
Your partner will also help you traverse Kanto by learning a few Secret Techniques to aid your progress. These out-of-battle techniques won't eat up any of your partner's four available battling moves (as HM moves did in the past), which makes life much easier. Little Pikachu or Eevee might not seem like the first Pokémon you'd go to for moving stone pillars or flying around Kanto, but both are crafty enough to find ways.
Pikachu or Eevee will also have some special interactions when you visit certain areas that no other Pokémon will have. Continue your journey, and see what catches your partner's eye!
Play with Your Partner
You'll be able to play with your partner anytime by selecting the Pikachu or Eevee icon from the main menu or by simply shaking the Joy-Con. Your partner will greet you in a number of endearing and occasionally bizarre ways, depending on its spirit or mood, so make sure to check in once in a while to see how it's doing. Sometimes your partner may even play a short game with you by having you touch its hands or paws. High five!
You can pet your partner or even change its hairstyle. If you've ever wondered what Pikachu would look like with a bowl cut... Well, we have a lot of questions for you, but you're also in luck. When you pet your partner via the Nintendo Switch touch screen, try using multiple fingers and brushing its head back and forth. Doing this correctly should change your partner Pokémon's hairstyle! Which new hairdo you get depends on how many fingers you use. You can get your bowl cut with five fingers, and something truly surprising may happen with eight or more...
You can also feed your partner Berries on this screen. Berries can be a little hard to come by, but your partner Pokémon will appreciate it if you're willing to spare a snack. Both Pikachu and Eevee love Berries, and they'll grow closer to you if you give them some chow. They love silver and golden Berries even more than regular Berries, so share 'em if you can spare 'em. They're sure to try their hardest in battle if you do!
Partner Pokémon Battle Moves
Your partner is more than just a pretty face. Pikachu and Eevee may be cute, but they're also dominant forces in battle! While your partner won't be able to evolve, you'll find your partner Pokémon is much more powerful than the Pikachu or Eevee you'll find in the wild, both in terms of stats and having exclusive tricks.
If you see a dancing icon of your partner Pokémon during battle, be sure to shake your Joy-Con or Poké Ball Plus. When you do, your partner Pokémon will use its special power to help you! (Note that this will only work if you're playing with the Poké Ball Plus or detached Joy-Con controllers.) If your partner Pokémon is the one battling, it'll use a signature move powered by how much your partner loves you—either Pika Papow or Veevee Volley (you'll never guess which partner uses which). If your partner isn't the one battling, it'll boost the stats of your active Pokémon instead. Either move will take up your action for the turn, but it'll be well worth it!
If that wasn't enough, the Partner Move Tutor found in Cerulean City, Celadon City, and Fuchsia City can help you teach Pikachu or Eevee some incredible moves that no other Pokémon can learn. Pikachu will start out by learning an Electric-type attack with an increased priority and a guaranteed chance to critical hit, and later it can learn some other types of moves—moves that may remind you of an old trading card or two. Eevee can learn moves matching the types of its potential Evolutions (including those that aren't native to Kanto), all of which have 90 Power, 100 Accuracy, and an incredible added effect, such as always burning the target.
Gifts from the Heart
Occasionally, your partner may want to give you a present while you're out adventuring. When you see the dancing partner Pokémon icon, shake your Joy-Con or Poké Ball Plus (or select the bouncing partner icon in the main menu) and your partner may give you something! It can give you several different items, and some of them can't be found anywhere else.
Note that unlike your partner's special battle effects, this partner bonus can still occur if you're playing without a detached controller.
Partner Pokémon Outfits
Pokémon Trainers have been picking out cool and cute outfits that show off their personality for generations, and now your partner Pokémon can get in on the fun! Many helpful characters will give you outfits as you progress in your journey, and you can equip them at any time via the Clothing Trunk section of your Bag. For each outfit you're given, there's a matching outfit that your partner can wear as well. You can also mix and match pieces of different outfits to create your own unique look.
But those aren't the only fashion items you can get for your partner, which is always ready to look chic. You'll find adorable, incredible, and sometimes ridiculous items at the Celadon Department Store. The fashion possibilities are endless—from the prestigious Crown to the geeky Thick Glasses to...whatever statement Eevee is trying to make with this hat.
It's a ton of fun bonding with your partner Pokémon, and it will be with you every step of the way in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! If you haven't already started your journey, you're missing out! Check out more about the latest Pokémon RPG at the official site.
