Ash and friends save a morose Psyduck they spot from the Machoke, Machamp, and Machop that are pursuing it, but find this does little to lift its spirits. Close on their heels, Team Rocket decides the Psyduck would make a perfect pick-me-up gift for the boss. Protecting this Pokémon from Jessie, James, and Meowth proves to be only half of the problem, though; when the Psyduck’s over-protective trainer arrives, Ash and friends think they’ve finally discovered the root of its depression. But can they convince its trainer that her obsessive pampering is doing her Psyduck no good at all?
