Pokémon Europe International Championships Side Events

The Pokémon Europe International Championships host a full schedule of side events open to all attendees who have an official event badge, regardless of whether the attendee is playing in the main event. Come battle for a variety of awesome prizes in smaller competitions throughout the weekend. It’s a great opportunity to compete against players from around the world!

Fans of the Galar region who have brought their own Nintendo Switch system and Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield game can play events in the Series 12 format—or they can throw down Piers-style with Spikemuth Cup Double Battles, in which restricted Pokémon are prohibited and Dynamaxing is not allowed. There will also be opportunities for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl players to battle other Trainers in the Sinnoh region.

Trading Card Game players looking for Sealed events may enjoy tournaments run using Build & Battle Boxes. In further Sealed fun, participants in Booster Battles have the opportunity to try out our new Ditto markers at their debut event (while stocks last) ahead of their future wider launch. Trainers with their own decks looking for other formats can enjoy the return of our 2-vs-2 Team Format in which you and a friend team up and face off in pairs against your rivals, or the Gym Leader Challenge format developed by Top Deck Academy host Andrew Mahone. Of course, there will also be Standard events for those looking to play in the Championship Series format.

Pokkén Tournament DX side events will be available in both the Team Battle and Basic Battle formats.

Finally, for those who prefer a smaller screen, there will be Pokémon GO events throughout the weekend, using both the standard Great League format and the Season 5 variant of the Little Cup.

For more information each of these formats, please refer to the appropriate schedules and event details below.

Most side events require an entry fee. Players will receive prize wall tickets based on their record.

The prize wall closes early Sunday afternoon when the closing ceremony starts. Prizes must be redeemed by that time. See the side events area at the venue for more details.

Many side events are on-demand pods of 4 or 8 players in which everyone gets to play multiple matches. There are also scheduled side events throughout the weekend.

All times CEST. Times are subject to change.

TCG Side Event Formats

Standard: available in pickup pods.

Build & Battle: available in scheduled tournaments.

  • The expansions available will be confirmed on-site.

Booster Battle: available in pickup pods.

  • Each player receives a booster pack and reviews the cards inside. Then, each player chooses 10 basic Energy cards (any types) to add to the booster pack to form a small deck.

    • The expansions available will be confirmed on-site.

  • Players are also given a set of Ditto markers.

  • Players proceed to play a game of the Pokémon TCG, with these additional rules:

    • Each player sets up just 2 Prize cards at the beginning of the game.

    • Players don’t lose if they are unable to draw a card at the beginning of their turn. Instead, play proceeds as normal.

    • In addition, the Ditto Evolution rule will be used in this format. Once during your turn (before you attack), you may put a Ditto marker on 1 of your Basic Pokémon that doesn’t have a Rule Box. It gains the following Ability:

      • Ability: Evolutionary Advantage

      • Once during your turn, you may put any Stage 1 or Stage 2 card from your hand onto this Pokémon to evolve it. You can’t use this Ability during your first turn or the turn this Pokémon was put into play. If you put a Stage 2 card onto this Pokémon, your turn ends.

Giant Booster Battle: available in scheduled tournaments.

  • In this supercharged version of Booster Battle, players gain an extra booster pack every round to add to their deck.

Team Format: available in scheduled tournaments.

Any two players with Standard decks can take part in a Standard format game with a twist.

  1. The game is played in 3 lanes: that is, each side has 3 Active Pokémon, 3 Benches, 3 pools of Prize cards, etc.

  2. Players take their turns as a team, and each player can access two lanes on their side: one on the edge, and the centre lane.

  3. Each card played and each attack performed only affects the lane it is played into, but the standard rules governing number of actions performed and card types played in a turn apply separately to each lane (so, for example, a player can play a Supporter card into their own lane and the centre lane in the same turn, but if they do so, their teammate cannot also play a Supporter card into the centre lane).

  4. The team’s turn ends with them choosing attacks in all three lanes at the same time.

  5. A team wins by taking 8 of their combined 12 Prize cards before the opposing team does.

Pheromosa-GX and Dialga-GX may not be used. For more in-depth details and rulings, enquire at the venue!

Gym Leader Challenge: available in scheduled tournaments.

In this format, created by Top Deck Academy host Andrew Mahone, choose your favourite type and build a deck to showcase its strengths just like a Gym Leader.

  • Expanded format, with the following additional rules in place:

    • Only one copy of each card per deck (except basic Energy)

    • All Pokémon in the deck must be of the same type

    • ACE SPEC cards and Pokémon with a Rule Box (VMAX, GX, Prism Star, etc.) or an Ancient Trait may not be used
