Frightfully Good Pokémon in the Spooky Manor!

18 Oct, 2011 in Video Games

Develop unique strategies with Pokémon found in a new area of the Pokémon Dream World!

There's plenty of fun stuff to do when you visit the Pokémon Dream World, like decorating your house and growing Berries. And if you're serious about improving your Pokémon battle team, the Pokémon Dream World holds all kinds of opportunities. Find out how you can use the Pokémon you'll befriend on the Island of Dreams to improve your chances for victory in battle. Plus, take a look at some of the awesome Pokémon that await you in the Spooky Manor, a new area you can explore in the Pokémon Dream World!

Pokémon of Your Dreams

When you start building your next team, having a wide pool of available Pokémon to choose from is valuable. In Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version, you can catch all of the Unova Pokémon, as well as a good number of Pokémon from other regions. But to give yourself the best flexibility, the Pokémon Dream World is your place to go. There you can befriend Pokémon that you might not otherwise be able to find or Pokémon that are really tough to catch in the wild in the Unova region.

One great reason to explore the Pokémon Dream World for new Pokémon is that the Pokémon you find there will have special traits you won't find elsewhere. In particular, virtually all of the Pokémon you’ll discover have Hidden Abilities that differ from the Abilities of the Pokémon you can catch in your Pokémon Black Version or Pokémon White Version game. With the right combination of moves, these Hidden Abilities could be your ticket to creating an amazing team that’s ready to battle and win!

On the Attack

In the new Spooky Manor area of the Pokémon Dream World, you may encounter Pokémon that have more differences from wild Pokémon than just Hidden Abilities. Some Pokémon may even know moves they couldn’t otherwise learn! For example, you may find a Gastly with the Sludge Wave move, a Poison-type attack that hits all other Pokémon in a Double Battle. Steel-type Pokémon aren’t affected by Poison-type moves, so if you put a Steel-type Pokémon in as Gastly’s teammate, only your opponent’s Pokémon will take damage. Or you may befriend a Misdreavus that knows the Inferno attack, one of the most powerful Fire-type attacks—an especially good thing when facing Steel-type Pokémon.

Get to the Points

When you first start exploring the Spooky Manor, you may encounter fewer Pokémon than you were expecting. Don’t despair! The more time you spend in the Pokémon Dream World, the more Dream Points you’ll earn. Keep playing to earn Dream Points so you can keep encountering more Pokémon! It’s not just encountering Pokémon that will give you more Dream Points—actions that increase Dream Points include logging in to the Pokémon Global Link, gaining Dream Pals, befriending Pokémon on the Island of Dreams, and watering other player’s Gardens.

Inhabitants of the Spooky Manor

Check out some of the Pokémon you can discover when you roam the Spooky Manor in the Pokémon Dream World!

MawileMawile

Befriend a Mawile with the Hidden Ability Sheer Force. This Ability strips added effects such as Burn and Flinch from attacks, but it makes the attacks do 30% more damage. Mawile can learn quite a few attacks that would be affected by Sheer Force, including Flamethrower. With the right moves, Mawile can be a heavy hitter for your party.

Spiritomb

Spiritomb’s Infiltrator Hidden Ability helps you get past your opponent’s defenses. When up against Pokémon using Reflect, Light Screen, Safeguard, or Mist, the Infiltrator Ability won’t let these effects slow Spiritomb down!

Volbeat and Illumise

Both Volbeat and Illumise can be found in the Spooky Manor with the Prankster Hidden Ability. With it, all of their status moves will go first, including regaining HP. For example, both of these Pokémon can learn Moonlight, which restores HP based on the weather conditions in battle. Prankster guarantees that this move will go first every time!

SableyeSableye

Sableye is another Pokémon from the Spooky Manor that can have the Prankster Hidden Ability, and it can learn many non-damaging moves.

Drowzee

With the Inner Focus Hidden Ability, Drowzee won’t flinch after being hit by moves like Fake Out. This provides the perfect opportunity to use Trick Room without being interrupted! This Pokémon will be even more powerful when it evolves into Hypno at Level 26.

SpinarakSpinarak

Boost the power of critical hits with the Sniper Hidden Ability, a trait of Spinarak found in the Spooky Manor. Combined with attacks such as Cross Poison, which has a high chance of making a critical hit, Spinarak becomes an even bigger threat to do huge damage in battle!

Bronzor

Bronzor’s Heavy Slam attack does more damage the more the Pokémon weighs compared to its opponent. Help increase that difference with the Heavy Metal Hidden Ability, which doubles Bronzor’s weight! This move is even more effective when Bronzor evolves into the heavier Bronzong at Level 33.

ShuppetShuppet

When attacked, a Pokémon with the Cursed Body Ability may disable its attacker from using that particular move again, so it’s a great Hidden Ability to have on your Shuppet for battle. And with the move Pain Split, a move sometimes known by Shuppet in the Pokémon Dream World, you’ll be able to damage your opponent, regain health, and prevent an attack—all at the same time!

Abra

Look for an Abra in the Spooky Manor that has the Magic Guard Hidden Ability. It prevents all non-direct damage, such as from the Poison or Burn status conditions. It also prevents damage done by weather effects like Sandstorm or Hail!

Change Is Coming

There are a few Pokémon whose Abilities change when the Pokémon evolve. This goes for the Hidden Abilities you find on some Pokémon, too! Take a look at a few Pokémon that will change when they evolve.

Smoochum

When you find Smoochum in the Spooky Manor, it will have the Hydration Hidden Ability, which cures status conditions during the Rain weather condition. When Smoochum evolves into Jynx at Level 30, the Pokémon’s Hidden Ability will change to Dry Skin, which heals Jynx’s HP slightly during the Rain weather condition. Use Jynx’s Rain Dance move to lower Fire-type attacks and restore Jynx’s HP in the rain!

GardevoirGalladeRalts, Gardevoir, and Gallade

The Ralts you’ll encounter in the Spooky Manor has the Telepathy Hidden Ability, which prevents the Pokémon from being hit by an ally. This Hidden Ability will stay with the Pokémon if you evolve it into Kirlia at Level 20 and then to Gardevoir at Level 30. It’s really helpful in Double Battles when you pair it with a Pokémon that has attacks that hit all other Pokémon in play, such as Surf.

However, if you use a Dawn Stone on a male Kirlia to evolve it into Gallade, the Pokémon will now have the Justified Hidden Ability! This is the signature Ability of the trio of Cobalion, Virizion, and Terrakion. It increases a Pokémon’s attack power when the Pokémon is hit by Dark-type moves. Since Gallade is part Psychic type, it can expect to see plenty of Dark-type attacks, making Justified a very useful Hidden Ability for making a strong comeback in battle!

The Spooky Manor is newest place to find incredible Pokémon in the Pokémon Dream World, but it’s not the only place to go. Once you track down all the Pokémon there, look at all the other areas to find special Pokémon with cool Hidden Abilities! With all of these powerful Pokémon to choose from, you’re now ready to create the ultimate Pokémon team!
