Pokémon VG Spring Regional Championships Information

This season's VG Regional Championships will feature Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire in the Standard format. The Pokémon VG Spring Regionals will be held on the weekends of May 14, 21, and 28, 2016. Gameplay typically begins on Saturday and concludes on Sunday. Are there any requirements for attendance?

The Spring Regional Championships do not require an invitation or qualification. All players in good standing are welcome to participate. Players must bring their own system in the Nintendo 3DS family, Pokémon Omega Ruby or Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Game Card or downloadable version, and charger. Players must have a legal team to compete.

What is the entry fee?

Entry fees may be charged by the event organizer. These fees will vary by location and age division. Be sure to read the event listings, when available, for specific details.

Which games will be played?

The VG Spring Championships will feature the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire video games.

How will a winner be determined?

All Pokémon VG Spring Regional Championships will use the following methods to determine a champion:

  • Age-modified Swiss pairings with single-game or best-of-three matches at the organizer's discretion

  • After Swiss rounds, a single-elimination top cut, size determined by attendance

    • Single-elimination top cut will be run as best-of-three matches

What are the prizes?

Prizes are awarded to the top players in each of three age divisions. Players must have a Pokémon Trainer Club account with a Player ID attached, and they must have opted in to the Play! Pokémon program in order to earn points and awards.

All participants will receive 3 Play! Points and a Pokémon Regional Championships promo card (while supplies last), just for playing! Players will receive Championship Points according to the tables listed here.

1st Place

  • A Pokémon VG Regional Championships 1st Place award

  • A Nintendo 3DS system

    • A combination of 72 booster packs from current Pokémon TCG expansions

2nd Place

  • A combination of 72 booster packs from current Pokémon TCG expansions

3rd and 4th Place

  • A combination of 36 booster packs from current Pokémon TCG expansions

5th Place through 8th Place

  • A combination of 18 booster packs from current Pokémon TCG expansions

9th Place through 16th Place

  • A combination of 9 booster packs from current Pokémon TCG expansions
