Popular Decks from Nationals

One of the most exciting aspects of the National Championships is how unpredictable they can be. We looked at a number of decks that we thought would be popular in Indy, but several other decks have shined in the tournament, as well. Take a look at four of these interesting—and effective—decks.

Bronzong, Dialga-EX, and Aegislash-EX contribute to this mostly Metal deck, which is further aided by a range of powerful Pokémon-EX. Bronzong-EX's Metal Links Ability keeps Dialga-EX's Full Metal Impact attack ready to go, and Seismitoad-EX keeps the opponent from getting started by preventing him or her from playing Item cards.

We examined another Raichu deck in our Nationals preview, but this variation demonstrates how versatile the foundation of Raichu and Crobat can be. The nature of this deck permits you to include different Pokémon depending on what you expect to encounter at the next tournament. Here, Landorus-EX is included instead of Yveltal-EX in the previous example deck.

Mega Manectric-EX’s Turbo Bolt is everything you want in an attack—it does decent damage, doesn’t cost a lot of Energy, and has the added effect of getting more Energy onto your Bench. This deck is loaded with cards to help fill up the discard pile with Energy, including Professor Juniper, Ultra Ball, Trainers’ Mail, and Battle Compressor.

Wailord-EX is the centerpiece for one of the more fascinating (and frustrating) decks we’ve seen in a while. It’s entire goal is to survive long enough that the opponent decks out, without ever attacking. The deck doesn't even include any Energy! Wailord-EX’s huge HP and a number of HP restoring cards such as the Rough Seas Stadium card are enough to test the patience of this deck’s foe.
