Video Game Championship Series

The Pokémon Video Game Winter Regional Championships is the second of three events that give players an opportunity to earn over $5,000 in Travel Awards and Stipends for the 2013 U.S. National Championships!

Held in cities across the U.S. on January 20, each Regional Championship is part of a title-event series where players compete for the title of Regional Champion! Results of the Regional Championships can give a serious boost to a player’s Championship Points and chances of getting into the 2013 World Championships in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

The Pokémon Winter Regional Championships will take place in the following locations:

• Long Beach, California
• Lake Buena Vista, Florida
• St. Charles, Missouri
• Salem, Oregon
• Sandston, Virginia

When are the Pokémon VG Winter Regional Championships?

The Pokémon VG Winter Regionals will be held on January 20, 2013. Find event dates, times, and locations.

Are there any requirements for attendance?

The Winter Regional Championships do not require an invitation, or qualification. All players in good standing are welcome to participate and admission is free.

Players must bring a system from the Nintendo DS™ family, a copy of Pokémon Black Version 2 or Pokémon White Version 2, and a charger.

How do I earn a Bye for the VG Winter Regional Championships?

Any player with 4 or more Championship Points will receive a Round 1 Bye.

How will a winner be determined?

All Pokémon VG Winter Regional Championships will use

• Age Modified Swiss (single game) pairings
• A cut to a Top 8 (attendance allowing) single elimination finals
  • Single elimination finals will be run as best 2 out of 3 games

What are the age divisions?

Prizes are awarded to the top players in each of three age divisions.

Junior Division:Born in 2002 or later
Senior Division: Born in 1998, 1999, 2000, or 2001
Master Division:Born in 1997 or earlier

What are the prizes?

All participants will receive 3 Play! Points, and a Pokémon Regional Championships promo card (while supplies last), just for playing!

1st Place

• A Pokémon VG Regional Championships 1st Place award
• A Travel Award (including a parent or legal guardian for players under 18) to the 2013 U.S. National Championships at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. *†
• A first-round bye at the U.S. National Championships**
• 120 Championship Points

2nd Place

• A Pokémon VG Regional Championships 2nd Place award
• A Travel Stipend of $750 for Junior and Senior Division finalists to the 2013U.S. National Championships at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Stipend must be collected on site at the National Championship. Valid ID will be required to collect stipend. *†
• A Travel Stipend of $600 for the Master Division finalist to the 2013 U.S. National Championships at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Stipend must be collected on site at the National Championship. Valid ID will be required to collect stipend. *†
• A first-round bye at the U.S. National Championships**
• 110 Championship Points (if  division attendance is 4 or greater)

3rd & 4th Place

• A Travel Stipend of $700 for Junior and Senior Division finalists to the 2013 U.S. National Championships at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Stipend must be collected on site at the National Championship. Valid ID will be required to collect stipend. *†
• A Pokémon VG Regional Championships 3rd or 4th Place award
• 90 Championship Points (if  division attendance is 8 or greater)

5th Place through 8th Place

• 70 Championship Points (if division attendance is 32 or greater)

9th Place through 12th Place

• 50 Championship Points (if division attendance is 64 or greater)

13th Place through 16th Place

• 40 Championship Points (if division attendance is 64 or greater)

17th Place through 32nd Place

• 20 Championship Points (if division attendance is 128 or greater)

33rd Place through 64th Place

• 10 Championship Point (if division attendance is 256 or greater)

* Travel awards and byes are awarded to the winning player(s) for the U.S. National Championships regardless of winning players’ country of origin.

** Byes do not stack. If a player received a bye at a previous Regional Championships event and finished in the top 2 at a Winter Regional Championships, the player will receive a maximum of one first-round bye at the U.S. National Championships.

† Travel awards do not stack. If you won a travel award at a previous Regional Championship event, the travel award will pass down to the next eligible player. If there is a stipend awarded to the player who the travel award is passed to, it will instead be awarded to the player the travel award was passed down from. Travel stipends DO stack, meaning that a player may earn multiple travel stipends.
