Championship Points are a way to recognize the top players from Pokémon Video Game Championship Series (VGCS) events. Championship Points are awarded to players based on their finish position or placement at individual events.
What can I do with the Championship Points I’ve earned?
Championship Points are used to gain entry into high-level tournaments, including the 2013 Pokémon World Championships. Tournament qualifications are listed in each event-specific FAQ as it is posted.
How are Championship Points awarded?
Championship Points are awarded to players based on their finish position at Video Game Championship Series and select Global Battle Union tournaments.
These events include:
- Select GBU Tournaments
- Regional Championships
- National Championships
- World Championships
How do I qualify for the 2013 World Championships?
There are two routes into the main tournament at the 2013 World Championships in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
In North America, the top 12 players in all age divisions based on Championship Points will receive a 2013 World Championships invitation. In Europe, the top 16 Senior and Masters Division players and the top 32 Junior Division players based on Championship Points will receive a 2013 World Championships invitation.*
Players who do not receive an invitation can participate in the Last Chance Qualifier at the 2013 World Championships
* Invitations for players selected through Championship Points exclude those players who already received an invitation based on their placement at the 2012 World Championships.
What is the Last Chance Qualifier?
The Last Chance Qualifier is a single-elimination tournament held at the 2013 World Championships. Only 4 players from this tournament will qualify for the main tournament which determines the 2013 World Champions.
What are Kickers?
Championship Point awards are listed below. VGCS event participants may receive "Kicker" points if the attendance for an age division meets a certain threshold. Base points never change but, if the Kicker level is reached, points are awarded deeper into the final standings.
What are Play! Points?
Play! Points are currently used for the Pokémon TCG and not for the Pokémon VGCS. Players receive Play! Points for attending events, and these points may sometimes be used as qualifications for other events.
